Can an API Client Have Multiple Dwolla Balances?

Hi,

I want to confirm whether an API Client can have multiple Dwolla Balances.

We aim to pre-load a new Customer’s balance funding source upon onboarding, so they don’t have to wait several hours before using the app, especially during live events.

Currently, we use the Dwolla Balance to hold funds charged to Customers. However, since pre-loading Customer balance requires maintaining enough funds in Dwolla Balance to support a certain number of new users, we want to separate pre-loaded funds from charged fees.

While we could simulate this separation using labels, we’d prefer a more restricted approach. Specifically, we’re concerned that funds reserved for pre-loading customer balances might exceed the amount allocated to a specific label, as the funds remain available within the Dwolla Balance.

Is there a way to achieve this separation within Dwolla, such as having multiple balances or a different mechanism?

Thanks!

Hi @ccortes , Each Verified Customer will come with a single Dwolla balance that gets systematically created when the user has a verified status. Unfortunately there isn’t a way to generate multiple balance Funding Sources that are associated with a single user account. Without knowing more details on your use case, i’d likely recommend exploring Labels to separate funds that are in a users balance to be allocated for various purposes. With Labels, you’ll still have the single balance but that total balance can be reserved for n number of Labels.
