Can we use VAN in our Sandbox environment for testing purpose?

I followed the documentation given in the link - API Reference | Create a Funding Source for an Account (dwolla.com).

Hi @sonam – Yes! You’re able to use VANs in Sandbox, but we need to enable it for your account.

We can do one of two things:

  1. Enable VANs for your current Sandbox account. Doing so will cause new Customers to be created on a different financial holdings location than the current one. This means you can only transact with and create VANs for new Customers. Previous customers will need to be migrated over to the new holdings, which requires API calls to a different endpoint. You might want too choose this route if you are already live in Production and want to test the VANs functionality in Sandbox before you roll it out to Prod.

  2. You can create a new Sandbox account, and before you create any customers in it, we can enable VANs for your account. Doing so will eliminate the need to do the extra migration API calls. You might want to choose this route if you aren’t live in production yet and are building out the integration for the first time.

Let me know which path you’d like to go forward with and please share the Sandbox account ID or email!

Hi @shreya,

Can’t we send amount from VAN to any other funding source? I am trying to send a fund from VAN to another account using API “Create a Transfer”, but it’s giving below error. Could you please let me know how to resolve this?

Hi @sonam – VANs cannot be used within Dwolla to create transfers to/from other funding-sources since VANs are used externally. However, you are able to simulate these external transfers! in Sandbox. Here’s a guide that walks you through these steps - Getting started in the sandbox | Dwolla API Documentation

I would also like access to the VAN functionality in the sandbox environment. What information do you need to enable it? (I see to reach out to support for Production)

Hi, for enabling VAN functionality in sandbox also you need to ask support team as we do for production. They will enable it from the backend and you will be able to test the functionality in sandbox environment.

Hi @moldehoff – we just need your Sandbox email address. We recommend creating a new Sandbox account and sharing your email address. You can use the same email to create a new Sandbox account by adding an alias at the end like so

shreya@gmail.com
shreya+sandbox2@gmail.com

After that, I can enable VANs for that account for you to test with!

Hi @shreya can you please enable VAN for my current account in sandbox. my email id is : saurav.m@simformsolutions.com

Hi @Saurav – VANs has been enabled for your Sandbox account!

Please keep in mind that only new Verified Customers created from here onwards would be able to create a VAN and transact with the Main account. All other Customer accounts previously created will need to be migrated over if you wish to use those accounts for VANs, and if they need to transact with the newer Customer accounts!

Happy testing. Let us know if you run into any questions!

Thanks @shreya for your help and concern but I already know that older accounts are not eligible for VAN but it would be great if you can tell me if now I can create VAN in masters account in my current account or not?

Hi @Saurav – yes you should be able to create a VAN on the Main account now!

Great ,
Thank you
